Festival of Booths 2026

This year in 2026, starting from the evening of Friday Sept 25, it will be the biblical Festival of Booths (Sukkot, starting 15th of the 7th month on biblical calendar)). The usual Torah reading sequence is paused. Leviticus 22:26-23:44 is among the special holiday Bible readings. Notably, it is a happy holiday that starts shortly after a solemn fast day (Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur, 10th of the 7th month on biblical calendar) emphasizing repentance and forgiveness. Regarding these two kinds of holiday(s) the bible says:

“(Lev 23:27) The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves, … (Lev 23:32) It is a sabbath of rest for you, and you must deny yourselve…”

”(Lev23:34) Say to the Israelites: ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the LORD’s Feast of Tabernacles begins, … (Lev 23:40) On the first day you are to take choice fruit from the trees, and palm fronds, leafy branches and poplars, and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days.”

After fasting (according to Jewish tradition) and repentance https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Kippur, when G-d has forgiven our sins, we can be re-united with G-d, and rejoice before Him wholeheartedly. The yearly Torah cycle of holidays is completed with these happy seven-day holidays of Sukkot and the eighth day assembly (Shemini Atzeret). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukkot
